THE VALDICHIANA

Its Valley in the heart of  Tuscany, between the province of Arezzo and Siena. Its entirely crossed by the channel Maestro della Chiana,. In ancient times the valley was carved out by Clanis River, which flowed in the opposite direction, being a tributary of Straw.
The human settlement in the Val di Chiana is very old as evidenced by various archaeological finds of prehistoric times. But it is in the Etruscan era that the valley experienced a period of great prosperity, through farming techniques imported from the Etruscans and thriving businesses with the Fiorentines and is in this period that they started building a series of ports along the river Clanis. The splendor and importance of the Val di Chiana in Etruscan is testified by numerous archaeological findings from the various towns of the valley, especially from the ancient lucumonies of Arezzo, Cortona and Chiusi.
The Romans entered Valdichiana after the defeat of the Etruscans in 295 BC and the Roman presence in the valley has witnessed since the II-I century BC
by several findings. In this period the valley kept its prosperity and historians as  Tacitus and Pliny the Elder described as the "granary of Etruria

IVAN BRUSCHI HOUSE MUSEUM

The building of Capitano del Popolo has recently been restored by the Etruria Bank.  It is one of the most elegant civilian buildings of the 1300 in Arezzo.  It is situated in front of the famous Romanesque church, Pieve di Santa Maria, in the historical upper part of the town. The name Palazzo del Capitano (the Captain's Building) is probably due to the fact that it was the residence of the Guelphi faction of Arezzo and probably also of the Capitano di Giustizia (the Captain of Justice).  Previously residence of the Lodomei family, the building become property of the Guelphi Camaiani family in 1300.  According to historical documents, it was the Mint and at the beginning of the XIV century it was for a short period the residence of the Public Tax Officer.  During the XV century it was the centre of the Florentine Public Officials.

The coats of arms placed on the façade of the building reveal some of it's history.  In fact they represent the town's emblem (a golden cross in a red field), the Camaiani family emblem (a deep blue background with a red rake with three gold lilies between it with a gold band across it) and of the Florence Town Council (a lily).  It is presumed that in 400 the building already was property of the Government and that only in 1384, at the end of the Arezzo independency, it become the Mint.  Since 2002 the building of Capitano del Popolo has become the centre of the Casa Museo Ivan Bruschi which hosts the eclectic collection of Mr. Ivan Bruschi, inventor of the famous Fiera Antiquaria (Antiquarian fair) who deceased in 1996 and is the venue of the homonymous Foundation, administered by the Etruria Bank, with the purpose of promoting the passion and love for art and the antiquarian culture.  In the elegant large halls, visitors can admire an important selected collection of object, books and handcrafts.
